Frances Edwina Johnson, 88, passed away on November 26, 2020 at John Knox Care Center, Lee’s Summit, MO. Frances was born on August 3, 1932 in Independence, KS, the oldest daughter of Cecil Hastings and May Hudiburg. She grew up in Coffeyville, KS, and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1950. Frances continued her education at Coffeyville Community College and then moved to Kansas City where she met Leonard “Bud” Johnson. They were married on July 20, 1956 and were blessed with two sons, Michael Eugene and David Allan. Frances completed her education at Central Missouri State College including her Master’s in Education.
Frances taught business education classes at Raytown South High School and retired in 1996. She loved teaching and her students loved her. She was a member of Raytown Retired Teachers Association and a long-time member of One Spirit United Methodist Church.
Bud & Frances were married 38 years until Bud’s death in 1994. They spent many happy times at their lake home at Pomme de Terre and created many great memories for their family. Frances enjoyed crocheting, playing bridge, square dancing, and most importantly, spoiling her family. Her grandkids brought her great joy and she had so much fun watching them grow and succeed.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, parents Cecil & May Hastings, brother Gene Hastings, and granddaughter Meghan Johnson. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Ruth) Johnson, and David (Deborah) Johnson, grandsons, Cameron (Kelsey) Johnson and Brett Johnson, her sister Donna Elmore, aa well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service on Wednesday, December 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, 25203 E US Hwy 50, Lee's Summit, MO 64086. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to her church, One Spirit United Methodist Church, 7900 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138.
