Joseph Johnson Jr 89, of Independence passed away February 2, 2014, at The Veterans Hospital. Funeral services with full Military Honors will be10:00 am Monday, February 10, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am prior to the service. Joseph was born on July 16, 1924 in Atherton, MO, to Joseph Johnson Sr and Thirza Paxton Johnson. Joseph was a proud veteran of WWII, surviving the Battle of the Bulge, and earning a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. After he returned home from the Army, He met and married the love of his life, Mary Helen Cogan. Joe was a very caring, and proud man, especially about his son and grandson, Joe III and Jason.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Helen Johnson; son Joseph Johnson III, and wife Paula Sterrett Johnson; grandson Jason Johnson; sisters: Doris Milano, Helen Johnson, and Judy Smith; 2 nephews, and 8 nieces. He is preceded in death by a sister, Jean Antonpouls. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Children’s Mercy Hospital
