Marilyn R. Johnson, 83, Leawood, KS, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away Nov. 5, 2013. A visitation will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. memorial service on Thursday, November 14, at South Crysler Restoration Branch, 16101 E. Salisbury Road, Independence, MO 64052; cremation.
Marilyn was born June 21, 1930 in Council Bluffs, IA. She graduated from high school before attending Graceland College. In 1954, she came to Independence to audition for an operetta when she met her future husband of fifty-six years, Donald K. Johnson. She also gave piano lessons for a while. She was a member of the church where she played piano and organ for worship services, sang in in the choir and helped conduct Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Messiah Chorus. In the 1980’s, she was a part-owner of Keepsake Kupboard, a crafts shop on the Square in Independence.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Donald K. Johnson, Sr. and brother Keith Brooner. She is survived by daughters Laurie Hale and husband Randy, Raymore, MO; Julia David and husband Manuel, Leawood, KS; Catherine Woods and husband Derek, Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren Jessica Alford and husband Travis, Peculiar, MO; Jordan Hale and wife Stephanie, Davis City, IA; Janae Hart and husband Levi, Blue Springs, MO; Janessa Brewster and husband Ronnie, Midland TX; Alise and Alex David, both of Leawood, KS; Christian, Nicole , Truman and Audrey Woods, all of Lee’s Summit, MO and five great-grandchildren.
