Mary Helen Johnson, 88, of Independence, MO, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, November 30, 2016 in her home.
A visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 5, from 9-10am, with funeral service at 10am, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers – donations may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
Helen was born November 8, 1928, in Independence, MO, to Irene (née Rice) and L.G. Cogan. In 1946, Helen met Joseph Johnson, Jr., also of Independence, whom she would later marry on November 9, 1946. Helen and Joe were blessed with one child, Joseph Johnson III. Helen wore many different hats in her life; she was a mother, wife, Cub Scout den mother, beautician, caterer, worked at LCAAP, LPN nurse, and a famous quilter.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joseph, Jr. (2014), her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Joseph III, daughter-in-law, Paula, grandson, Jason, and many nieces and nephews.
