Ruthella Johnson

Ruthella Dean Johnson, 93, of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014. She was born at home in Sioux City, Iowa, November 27, 1920 to Joseph and Ruth Newberry. She had four siblings, Stella, Janette, Laverna and Joe. All have preceded her in death. In 1940 she married Edward Johnson. Together they had four children. Ed passed away in 2006 after 66 years of marriage. Both Ed and Ruth were active in their church, South Crysler Restoration Branch. Ruth was also active in PTA for the many years her children attended school. During the war she went to work at a defense plant. When her children were grown, she went to work at Blue Valley Federal Savings and Loan. By continuing her education she was promoted from Secretary to Assistant Vice President of the loan office in Independence retiring in 1985. In 2007 she married Norman Rimmer. He preceded her in death in 2008. She had a devout love of God and family and has enjoyed a life filled with travel and loving memories from family, friends and church. She is survived by her children Linda and JE Lattin, Jana and Rick Oxenford, Dian and Tom Buckley, Dean and Jacklyn Graber Johnson, Jerry and Wynema Rimmer and Garland Rimmer, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as church and Heritage House friends. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. service on Saturday, November 29, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. The family asks that contributions be made in Ruth’s memory to the South Crysler Restoration Branch.
