Richard Joe Johnston, 58, of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 16th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17th at the chapel.
Richard was born June 2, 1956 in Fairfax, MO to Myron and Kathleen (Davis) Johnston. He graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp in the 1970’s. Richard worked for Hickerson’s Cable and TV Installation for over twenty two years, most recently as their fleet and warehouse manager. He and his wife of twelve years, April (Collins) enjoyed traveling and cruises together as well as spending time with their family. Richard is remembered as a hard worker, who was friendly and funny with an ornery personality, teasing those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, the “Lewis to his Superman”; son, Shawn Johnston of St. Joseph, MO; granddaughters, Kennedy and Kaytlynn Johnston of Elwood, KS; stepson, Quinten Biggs; stepdaughters Afton Singleton (Ben) and Sable Biggs (Jason Hogge) all of Independence, MO; brothers, Larry Nelson (Kevin) of Kansas City, KS; Roger Johnston (Holly) of St. Joseph, MO; Jef Johnston (Michelle) Scotts Bluff, NE; sisters, Peggy Laizure of Norman, OK; and Donna Nelson-Bowlin of St. Joseph, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and especially his beloved Jack Russell “Tippy”, who will all miss him.
