Virgil Jones, 92, beloved father and husband, was called to his eternal resting place on Sunday, March 27, 2016. Honoring Virgil’s wishes, there will be no services. A graveside service will take place at a later date. Virgil was born September 10, 1923 to John and Ethel Jones. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1941 – 1945. In 1946, he married Ruth Barber. After her death, he married Louise Hammond in 1982 and they were together until her death in August 2014. He enjoyed working outdoors and socializing but he mostly enjoyed his time with Louise. Virgil worked as a Police Officer for the City of Independence and then retired to Lake Pomme de Terre. He was a member of the Shriners and American Legion post 21. In 2012, he was picked to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Virgil will be remembered by his sons Harold Jones and wife Pat of Greenwood, MO, and Gary Jones and wife Linda of Palm Harbor, FL; daughter Linda Stone of Sweet Springs, MO; and step-daughter Cheryl Hughes of Blue Springs, MO; sister Dorothy Bunyard of Independence, MO; special niece Sherry Bedsworth of Buckner, MO; special nephew Jim Welsh of Independence, MO; 13 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to Foxwood Springs and Crossroads Hospice.
