Laura Mae Jones (Durst)

Laura Mae Jones, 92, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2020. A visitation will be held from 9-10am on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Mt. Zion Restoration Branch, 15008 E. 35th St, Independence, MO 64055, with a service starting at 10am. Burial will be at Seymour Masonic Cemetery in Seymour, MO at 1pm on Friday, January 17, 2020. Laura was born on August 14, 1927 to Thurman and Laura (Edwards) Durst in Baltimore, MD. She was one of 9 children. Laura was a homemaker and mother to her own four children, whom were always given equal treatment and love. She was a wonderful cook and expert seamstress, making everything from tea towels to clothes for the children. She was also a gifted quilter. Laura loved to travel, playing Rummy, camping, and watching the birds and squirrels. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Restoration Branch for several years. Laura is survived by her three children, Irvin (Lois) Jones, Garrett (Helen) Jones, and Diana (Larry) Colbert Bender; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Janet Lee (Willard Sr.) Durst Maynard; brother-in-law, John Manning; sister-in-law, Delores Durst; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and uncles. She is preceded in death by both parents; husband, Garrett; son, Roy Lee Jones; 2 grandchildren; and siblings, Thurman G. Durst, Anna Louise Long, Reginald H. Durst, Robert Eugene Durst, Garnet Pearl Manning, Dala Jean McCarty, and Edwin Durst.
