Josephine Catherine "Joey" Calegari

Josephine Catherine "Joey" Calegari, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 26, 2024, at the age of 84. Joey was born on February 16, 1940 to John and Cary (Scardino) Azzaro in Kansas City, Missouri.

 Joey graduated from Glennon High School and several years later met her soulmate, Ron in 1969. They were married on August 6, 1985 and spent 55 years creating memories together. Her unwavering faith guided her through life, inspiring those around her. Ron and Joey attended St. Catherine’s Church and enjoyed going every Saturday until they closed She had an extraordinary gift for hosting gatherings, delighting friends and family alike with her baked Italian cookies and her legendary spaghetti with meatballs. Each holiday was a testament to her passion for bringing people together, and the memories will forever remain a treasure to all who attended.

 Joey found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed planting flowers in her garden, bingo nights, the rhythm of dancing, the pride of showcasing her cherry red Corvette at car clubs alongside her companion, Ron and going out to lunch with her sister and brother-in-law every week for years. 

 Joey is survived by her beloved husband, Ron; daughter, Sherry Calegari; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Connie Moulios (George) and Carol Roberts (Donald).

 She is preceded in death by her son, Craig Benton and granddaughter, Bailey Wages.

 Joey’s journey will be honored on November 4, 2024, starting with a visitation at Our Lady of The Presentation in Lee's Summit, Missouri, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with entombment to immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.

 As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the beautiful memories she created, the love she shared, and the impact she made on the lives she touched.
