Juan Pablo Diaz, 91 of Independence, Missouri passed away Monday April 29, 2024, at Centerpoint Medical Center. Cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held Tuesday May 7, 2024; 10:00am at Tri-Cities Ministries.
Juan was born March 3, 1933, in Puerto Rico. He spent his early life there and graduated from public schools. Shortly after graduation he came to the U.S. to serve in the Army. He worked for several years as a machinist for the Sika Corporation until he retired. He was a devout Christian man and was a proud dedicated member of Tri-Cities Ministries in Blue Springs, MO. In his free time, Juan loved working on old clocks, carpentry and raising chickens. He loved the Kansas City Royals and enjoyed watching them play.
He was married to Phyllis Marie (Sowell) on September 26, 1964, and they enjoyed nearly 57 years together; until her passing on July 26, 2021. Juan was charismatic and to know him was to love him. He is survived by a son, John Diaz of Independence, MO, a daughter, Tina Diaz-Smith of Des Moines, IA; 4 grandchildren Jessica Diaz, Olivia Diaz, Justin Toomey and Erin Toomey; 5 great grandchildren, Gideon, Gwen, Lilah, Ethan and Stella. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson Colon and sister, Paulina.
