Apostle Casper Kaat, 74, crossed through the veil to meet his Heavenly Father on Sunday August 13, 2006 at his home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2006 at The Gathering Place, 2820 S. 291 Hwy Outer Road, Independence, MO. Burial in Lobb Cemetery. Due to allergies, the family request no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for The Gathering Place Building Fund, Crossroads Hospice. Casper was born April 12, 1932 in Rotterdam, Holland to Casper and Olivina (VanOorschot) Kaat. He served in the Dutch Air Force for 2 years and was a trained electrician before he immigrated to Canada in 1954. There he met Barbara (Klughart) and married her on November 16, 1957. He worked in the Water Treatment Plant in Canada and in the Provincial Jail as grounds keeper and guard. Casper felt the calling to go to the Center Place in Independence and moved his family in 1961. He was custodian and grounds keeper at the Stone Church for almost 20 years. He then worked for 12 years at Sycamore Hills School as Head Custodian and grounds keeper, while keeping several part-time cleaning jobs. His talents included carpentry, electrical, plumbing, artistry, poetry, musician, landscaping and crafts. His greatest passion was studying the scriptures and living his life for God and sharing his testimony with everyone he met. He was called to be a Deacon at the age of 17, his faith was so unwavering that the Lord continued to guide his steps through the callings of servanthood as a Priest, Elder, High Priest and Apostle. Casper�s life is celebrated by everyone who knew and loved him. His deeds outshined in every aspect of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Kaat of the home; five children, Ralph and Tammie Kaat of Louisiana, Theresa and Bob Kaat-Wohlert of Independence, MO, Angie DeWitt of Texas, Casper Kaat of Odessa, MO, Daniel and Jennifer Kaat of North Kansas City, MO; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Klaas Kaat of Florida and Marius and Anne Kaat of Ontario, Canada; 3 brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
