Ira Leon “Lee” Kackley, 82, a devoted husband, father and Pop Pop, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 with his darling wife, Betty and family by his bedside.
Lee, born to Ira and Ruth Kackley, December 19, 1938 in Osceola, Missouri; graduated from William Chrisman High School and then later proudly served his Country, serving in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. During his time in the Navy, Lee met the love of his life, Betty, at a USO dance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On January 27, 1962 they married and began an amazing life together. Lee was an Eagle Scout, an avid hunter, fisherman, and an incredible artist and had a keen eye for antiques. Lee served the public as a Firefighter working at the Independence Fire Department for over 25 years.
Lee enjoyed hunting with his son and watching old movies with his daughters. He also loved taking his grandchildren to the water park, having a treat at Clinton’s and sharing his knowledge about Harry S. Truman. He had a passion for music and a great sense of humor. Lee will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; son, Vincent Kackley; daughters, Mary Nash (Bob); Karen Hoelscher (Gabe); and grandchildren, Trenton and Jonathan.
A visitation is scheduled on Friday, September 10th from 10-11am at St. Mark Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri. Mass begins at 11am with a burial to follow at Mount Olivet cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.
