James R. "Jim" Karas

Jim R. Karas, 81, of Independence, MO passed away December 25, 2016. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kaitlin Grace Scholarship Fund, c/o Sycamore Hills Baptist Church Preschool, 15200 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Jim was born August 29, 1935 in Omaha, NE to James and Alice Karas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandchild, Katie, who passed away in 1993. Jim’s passion was his loving family who will dearly miss him. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Karas; three daughters, Debbie Hafner (Mark), Denise VanWormer (Jim), Dina Lockwood (Jason); six grandchildren; one sister, Betty Willard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
