Karen Sue Parks, formerly known as Thomsen, was born on January 7, 1948, in the vibrant city of Kansas City, Missouri. She spent her formative years cultivating a fun-loving spirit and a kind heart that would leave an indelible mark on all who knew her. With a radiant smile and an infectious laugh, Karen quickly became a beloved figure in her community.
Throughout her professional life, Karen dedicated herself to her work as a cashier at Station Casino, where she touched the lives of many with her warm demeanor and genuine care for others. She approached each day with a sense of joy and enthusiasm, always making time to connect with customers and colleagues alike.
Karen's passions extended far beyond her career. She found immense pleasure in shopping, often embarking on adventures that allowed her to explore new stores and markets. Her love for playing slot machines brought her thrills and excitement, making her frequent trips to the casino a cherished pastime. An avid traveler at heart, Karen delighted in taking cruises, where she soaked up the beauty of the sea and created lasting memories. Whether dining out with friends or indulging in her favorite white chocolate mochas, every moment was a chance for her to celebrate life to the fullest.
Her family was undoubtedly her proudest accomplishment. She dedicated her life to nurturing them, creating a legacy of love that will be carried on for generations to come. Karen's nurturing spirit and unwavering support provided a foundation for her family, instilling values of kindness and togetherness.
Sadly, Karen departed this world on January 13, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, just days after celebrating her birthday. She is reunited in spirit with her beloved daughter, parents, and siblings, with whom she shared a lifelong bond.
Karen is survived by her husband Ronald "Ron" Parks; son, Donald (Gina) Funk; son in law, Joel Parrish; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters Beverly Cauthon and Joyce O'Dell; extended family and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter Trawna Parrish; parents, Christian "Chris" and Myrtle (Meyer) Thomsen; brothers, Donald and Kenny Thomsen; sisters Judy Pokaluke; Patty Keethly, and Shirley Hodge.
Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life to take place at a later date.
Karen Sue Parks will be fondly remembered as a beacon of kindness and joy. Her laughter, love, and the countless cherished moments will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
