Velma L. Katschkowsky, 96, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, January 12, 2004 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 10 am Friday, January 16th at Speaks Midtown Chapel; with interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Choir c/o The Auditorium. Velma was born April 28, 1907 in Independence, MO to Louis and Rosella Resch. She had worked with her husband Louis Katschkowsky at Sheet Metal Hardware on the Square. In 1940, Velma entered a contest to name a festival in Independence. Her entry of "Santa-Cali-Gon� won the contest with a prize of ten dollars. She was a 62-year member of the Messiah Choir; a member and past president of the Laurel Club; and a member of the Community of Christ Stone Church. Velma is survived by her sister, Mildred Leibold of Independence, MO; a brother-in-law, Roscoe Robinson; sister-in-law, Nellie Resch; and many nieces and nephews.
