Mary Leah Kennedy (Cook)

Mary Leah Kennedy, 89, Independence, Missouri, passed away on September 24, 2016. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016, from 6–8:00 pm, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A service will be held the following morning, also at Speaks, on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 11:00 am. Following the service on Saturday morning, a reception will be held at Fun House Pizza, 13002 US 40 Hwy, Independence, Missouri. Mary was born on May 6, 1927 in Taylorville, IL to Rosco and Mary (White) Cook. Prior to getting married Mary worked as a registered nurse. After marrying her husband Ralph Kennedy, on October 22, 1960, Mary stayed at home and was a loving mother and wife. Ralph passed away last year on May 3, 2015. Mary was longtime, active member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Independence, Missouri. She is survived by her two sons, Josh Kennedy of Kansas City, Missouri; Sam Kennedy, and wife Tina of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughters Alaina Davis and husband Brett, Andrea Kennedy, and Emily Kennedy, all of Independence, Missouri; Tara Jackson and Lindsay Kennedy both of Atlanta, Georgia; and great grandchildren Clayton, McKenna, Leah, and Anna. As one of eight children herself, Mary is also survived by extensive family located in Florida, Illinois and Oklahoma.
