Kenneth “Kenny” Marvin Uptegrove was a man who embodied hard work and a deep love for his family. Kenny’s journey began on March 2, 1938, in Grain Valley, Missouri, where he was born to his beloved parents Raymond Uptegrove and Martha Bell.
Kenny graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1956. Shortly after graduation, Kenny joined the army and was deployed to Germany. During his six-year deployment, Kenny was charged with aviation review. In 1967 Kenny met Sarah “Betty” Smith, a single mom with two young children. Kenny took in and raised Terry and Brad as if they were his own. Kenny and Betty were married in 1969 and later had one son, Paul. Kenny was very avid in coaching baseball and other sports. In later years he would become a grandfather “Kenny Groves” to several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Kenny retired after many years at Lipton Tea as the Director of Maintenance. Kenny was very crafty and would always help anyone needing help! After his and Betty’s retirement, they traveled all over the United States. Kenny and Betty always had pets to share their affection with. On March 19, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, Kenny’s journey came to an end. Kenny's departure has left a void in the lives of his cherished family and friends. Kenny is preceded in his death by his loving wife, Betty, son-in-law, Joe, siblings Lloyd and Patsy, and his loving parents. He is survived by his children, Terry, Brad, Paul, Donna, and Rhonda. In addition to his immediate family, Kenny leaves behind one devoted brother: Don Uptegrove.
Kenny’s memory will be cherished by everyone fortunate enough to have met him. He will be remembered as a hardworking individual who found joy in simplicity and creating lasting memories. As we bid farewell to Kenny, let us celebrate the life he lived with open hearts and gratitude.
