Helen G. Kent, of Independence, Mo passed away on October 15, 2005 at the Medical Center of Independence. Helen was a devout Catholic her entire life. The rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18th at the Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Mo, with the visitation following from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary�s Catholic Church, Independence, Mo. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Helen was born on September 11, 1923 near Pilot Grove, Mo to Lawrence and Christine (Schuster) Wittman. She lived on a farm as a young child before her family moved to Marshall, Mo. Her family�s love nurtured her strong work ethic and determined spirit. Helen also had a lifelong appreciation of nature. She graduated from the Mercy Academy in Marshall, Mo. After high school she moved to the Kansas City area where she lived for the remainder of her life. Helen married Charles B. Kent March 17, 1947. She was a devoted wife and mother of five children. Known as the unofficial family historian, Helen had a gift for remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of the entire Wittman clan. She was preceded in death by Charles, her husband of 36 years; one sister, Alice Heinzler; and two brothers, Leonard and Robert Wittman. Helen is survived by two sons, Stephen (Shauna) and Richard (Ann) Kent; three daughters, Barbara Becker, Mary Kent and Laura (Thomas) Bird; five sisters, Marguerite Kouba, Bernice Lehane Crain, Marie Barr, Catherine Berberet and Ruth Weislocher; one brother, William Wittman; 9 grandsons; and 3 granddaughters.
