Kevin Douglas Castle, age 71, passed away on February 24, at the Missouri Habilitation Center in Higginsville, where he had resided for the past 60 years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 3, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. S., Independence, MO. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Service at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at the Mound Grove Cemetery, 1818 N. River Rd., Independence, MO. immediately after the Service.
Kevin was a special person. He loved Elvis Presley – his music and his movies. His real heroes were Superman and The Lone Ranger, but Number One was Popeye, the sailor man! He had CDs of every Popeye show in existence, and he often went to sleep clutching the holder of his current favorite.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Hab Center for their love, dedication and care not only for Kevin but also for all the residents of the home. In spite of efforts to close these facilities, they provide much needed lifelong support services for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. If you wish to donate in Kevin’s memory, the family recommends contributions to the Higginsville State School Parents’ Association, % 3826 S. Union, Independence, MO 64055.
Kevin is survived by his devoted mother Jean Barrett, stepsister and “girlfriend” Marcia Kay (Jerry) Bond, stepbrothers John Barrett, Jr. (Jan) and Robin (Suzie) Barrett, sister-in-law Joann Bovoroy, nephew Skye Barnett and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father John Barrett and brother Clifford Castle.
