Dorothy Lee Kilgore, 84, Raytown, MO passed away Sept. 7, 2014. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with visitation beginning at 9 am before the service. Interment at Longview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd., K.C., MO 64149. Dorothy was born July 7, 1930 in Cotter, AR. She was a personnel manager for J.C. Penney Co. for nearly thirty years and retired in 1992. While at Penney’s she was also the top salesperson in the furniture department in the district. She most recently was a member of the First Assembly of God of Independence but had been active in other churches she attended as a Sunday school teacher, Secretary/Treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent throughout her life. She also sang in a trio with her sisters and in duets with her husband. She was a member of the Gideons and in her younger years won several awards from the Dale Carnagie Institute. She and her husband, Gaston, traveled to all forty-nine states in North America during their years traveling in their RV and making many friends along the way. Most of all she loved her family. Dorothy was preceded in death by son Ronald Kilgore, grandson Jeremy Dodson and brother Bill Stewart. She is survived by her husband of forty years Gaston Kilgore, of the home; sons Ed DeMoss and wife Janice, Lone Jack, MO; Ken DeMoss and wife Ursula, Oak Grove, MO; daughter Karen Dodson and husband Linus, Independence, MO; sisters Alice Shelor, Independence, MO; Naomi Corter, Mountain View AR; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
