Gerald Arnold Kilgore, 84, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Gerald was one of four children, born to Sherman and Pearl (Casey) Kilgore on October 11, 1934 in Newton County, AR. When he was very young, Gerald was moved to Kansas City, where he grew up and attended Northeast High School. Gerald left school early to start his career as a stockman at Sears and Roebuck. It was there, in 1953, that Gerald met, and married Roberta Triplett and the pair had two daughters, Cathy and Carrie. Gerald stayed with Sears and Roebuck for over 40 years before taking an early retirement to lovingly care for Roberta, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Gerald was a special man and a fun guy to be around. He was laid back and never angry. He was funny with a great sense of humor and he enjoyed poking fun at daughter Carrie, who wasn’t such a fan of his humor. Gerald was a homebody, simple and frugal but would do anything for anyone. He was good at trivia, enjoyed his daily newspaper puzzles, and was an avid golfer in his younger days. Gerald is survived by daughters, Cathy (Mike) Vaughn and Carrie Kilgore; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; both parents; and siblings, Kenneth Gus Kilgore, Helen Kruse and Shirley Gray.
