VON KINCHELOE was born and raised in Wright County, MO. Von was a graduate of Hartville High School. Since an early age he embraced all things mechanical…always wanting to know how things operated and were put together. He learned by taking things apart and putting them back together! He spent many of his early years helping on the family farm and racing cars around Wright County with his twin brother and friends.
Shortly after graduation Von came to Kansas City to go to trade school to be an auto mechanic. Von married the love of his life, Thelma Kincheloe and moved to Independence, MO. He spent time working hard to build a great life and foundation for his family. Von and Thelma were able to save and purchase Von’s DX, a service station located south of the Independence Square which he owned and operated for 37 years. There were many, many friendships and memories made during this time.
Work was a labor of love for Von, mingling his passion for cars with business. If he wasn’t repairing, buying, or selling vehicles, he was rebuilding classic cars for himself and friends….and that passion continued well into his retirement. Von was also a skilled trap shooter winning many awards over the years. Some of Von’s best qualities included humility and his quiet but caring nature…if someone needed help, he always wanted to help any way that he could.
Von is survived by his wife, Thelma Kincheloe, his brother Don Kincheloe, his sister Kay Jackson, his daughters Lesa and Vikki Kincheloe, his son Terry Kincheloe and his wife Sheryl Kincheloe. He also loved his grandchildren, Derrick Hinkle and his wife Jamie Hinkle, Chloe Kincheloe and Brett Kincheloe. Von is preceded in death by his parents Cledith & Herbert Kincheloe, and his eldest sister Lodema Perry.
In lieu of a funeral service, the family is having a CELEBRATION OF LIFE - CLASSIC CAR PARADE at Don Cox’s house on Sunday, October 30th at 1pm. If the classic cars are tucked away for the winter, please join the parade any way. Come by and give us a honk and a wave in celebration of Von. As an alternative to flowers, please consider donating to the University of Kansas Cancer Center.
