Charles Curtis Kirby, 84, went to be with the Lord December 25, 2007. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday evening at the chapel. Charles was born May 8, 1923 in Sedalia, MO to Frank and Josephine (Crabtree) Kirby. He married Mary Ruth Miller, June 5, 1950, and to this union was born 2 daughters. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed mostly in the Pacific. His early years were spent as a painter and in 1958 he moved his family to Independence, MO where he joined the Independence Fire Department. He retired after 31 years at the rank of Captain, and a member of the International Fire Fighters Association. He was also a delivery driver for Watt Drug Company for 40 years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Sam and Rollie Kirby, sisters Zula Landers, Edna Randall, Frances Nelson and Maxine Kirby. He is survived by his wife of 57 wonderful years, Mary Ruth Kirby of the home; 2 daughters, Audrey Petersen and husband Gerald and Sandra Jackson; a grandson, Dustin Jackson and 2 step grandsons, Sean Jackson and wife Kristin and Clint Jackson all of Independence, MO; a sister, Ida Hall of Lee’s Summit, MO and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
