Bernita Frances Kirk passed on from this life at home on September 14 surrounded by her family. Bernita was born February 21, 1928 in Downs, Kansas, to Frank and Carrie Fink. She lived much of her early life in Hamilton, Missouri. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City and became employed by Sears and Roebuck Catalogue Division, from which she retired in 1986. Bernita married Jack Kirk in 1948 and celebrated 59 years together this past May. They enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States in their retirement years. Bernita loved to quilt and do handwork. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jack Kirk of the home, a daughter, Karen Finke and husband, Ron, Independence, two sons, Mike Kirk and wife, Gayle, Independence, and David Kirk and wife, Denise, Overland Park, Kansas. She leaves her grandchildren Greg Finke, Independence, Joseph Finke and wife Whitney, Oak Park, Illinois, Elizabeth Scholes and husband, Conor, Langley, Oklahoma, Melissa Kirk, Overland Park, Kansas, and one great-grandchild, Caleb Scholes. She will be missed by all of her family and many friends. Bernita was preceded in death by her parents and step-brother, Donald Fink. The family wishes to thank Kansas City Hospice for their compassionate care these past weeks and suggests donations to them in lieu of flowers. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the chapel. Burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
