Allana Kirkbride

Allana Kirkbride, age 83, of Independence, MO, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 after a short illness. She was born May 26, 1930, in Poplar Bluff, Mo to Edgar & Clyda Burton. She married John (Jack) Kirkbride on April 23, 1949. She worked many years as a lithographer, first for Yearbook House and later for Vile-Goller Fine Arts. She was one of the first women to join the union. After retiring in 1984, Jack and Allana moved to Princeton, MO where they owned a small farm. They grew a large garden from which friends and family benefitted. During their time in Princeton, Allana also worked at the Sherriff’s office as a dispatcher. After returning to the Independence, MO area, she cared for many friends and family. She was an excellent cook and fed anyone that entered her home. She loved her jewelry and could accessorize any outfit from jeans to an evening gown. She was a long time member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and after its closure became an active member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Jack; her daughter, Kittie Yantz; 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her children, Dan (Marilee), Chris, and Nanette (Mike), 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with one more expected in October. Memorial services will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:30 AM, at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 727 N Main, Independence, MO. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s United Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
