After a long and fulfilling life, Anne Marie Klos, 82, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Truman Medical Center Lakewood, of failing health complicated by a hip fracture. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 2-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Anne Marie was born October 26, 1925 in Richmond, VA the daughter of Joel B. and Hazel A. (Timberlake) Compton. She began working at Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator at age 15 to support her family after her father passed. Anne moved to Kansas City, MO in 1944, married, and resumed her career. After moving up many ranks, she retired in 1984. Anne was very proud of earning her GED later in life, her career with Bell Systems and her volunteer services with Telephone Company Pioneers. She was a professional woman in an era when being a homemaker was the norm. After her marriage ended, Anne made many sacrifices so her children would have Catholic educations. Mom always put us before herself without complaint. Mom enjoyed cooking for her family, especially barbequed brisket and sugar cookies at Christmas. Mom loved her faith, birthdays and holidays, flowers, birds, gardening and a Burger King Whopper. Anne leaves behind her son, David Klos (Barbara), and daughter Joan Wheeler (Michael); grandchildren Valerie (Sam) McMahan, Jennifer and Christie Anderson, Monica and Melanie Wheeler; and one great-grandchild, Jordyn McMahan. Anne also leaves dear friends Barbara Shuey, Brett Pierson and Debbie Wade. Mom cherished you all! David and Joan thank everyone at Elliott Place in Raytown and Wilshire at Lakewood. You always treated Mom with compassion and respect and we are so very grateful. We also thank Dr. Tom McCormack, Dr. Chad Shaffer and the entire medical staff involved in her care at Truman Medical Center Lakewood. Your efforts were valiant, but Mom was tired and wanted to go home. “God did not promise us an easy journey, but He did promise us a safe arrival.” "Ruth Graham.
