Darrell E. Knight

Darrell E. Knight, 87, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Independence Regional Health Center. A memorial service for this loving husband and father will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at the New Walnut Park Church, Independence, MO. Inurnment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Darrell was born August 28, 1917 in Akron, OH, where he graduated from North High School in 1936 and enlisted in the Army in 1941, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Darrell attended Finley Engineering College in Kansas City receiving a BS Degree in Civil Engineering. He worked as the Assistant Physical Testing Engineer for the California Highway Department in Sacramento until his retirement in 1980. He and Eleanor returned to Independence in 1986. He was a former Chaplain Assistant and Hospital Volunteer at the Independence Regional Health Center, serving a total of 15 years. He was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. Darrell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Knight, Independence, MO; three sons, Stephen Knight and wife Susan, Independence, MO, David Knight and wife Tracy, Sacramento, CA, and John Knight and wife Renee, Shelton, WA, and 5 grandsons; two sisters and one brother, Bonna Jean Knight, Norma Laughlin; and Clifford Knight, all of Akron, OH.
