Henrik A. Knudsen, DDS, 89, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away August 18, 2018 in Independence, Missouri. He was born in Son, Norway to Ingrid and Bjarne Knudsen and attended the University of Kansas, graduating in 1954. He then attended the University of Kansas City (now UMKC) Dental School, graduating in 1957. Following graduation, he returned to Norway to serve in the Norwegian army for two years as a dentist. Henrik then returned to the United States for a residency in Dental Surgery at the University of Rochester School in Rochester NY. He subsequently relocated to Kansas City where he married Rogene Fultz of Independence, sister of classmate and friend Howard Fultz, DDS. In 1962 he founded the Noland Road Dental Center in Independence and practiced there until retiring in 2001.
Henrik cared deeply about his patients was beloved by them for his caring manner and expertise. He had many longtime friends, both personal and professional in addition to a large extended family in Norway. Outside of the office, his relaxation included getting his hands dirty with yard work and bailing hay on his farm. Throughout his life, Henrik was very proud to be a Norwegian. He and his family spent many summers in Norway and he would never hesitate to mention his homeland.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Rogene, sons Henrik Jr., Erik, daughter-in-law Debbie, Kurt, daughter-in-law Heather and granddaughters Katy and Fae, dog Fred, cousin Lise and husband Phil Sandage of Blue Springs and numerous cousins in Norway.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Memory Center at Jackson Creek and Ascend Hospice for the love and care they gave our father during the final two years of his life.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday the 27th at 1 pm. at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 NW R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, MO 64014.
