James F. Koelling

July 28, 1931 — January 19, 2005

James F. Koelling, 73 of Independence, MO, formerly of Tebbetts, MO passed away Wed. Jan 19, 2005. Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, Jan 24, 2005 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 - 6 pm Sunday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Special Neighbors, 1220 E. 32nd St. Indep. MO 64052. Mr. Koelling was born on Jul 28, 1931 to Otto and Thelma (Freeman) Koelling in Tebbetts, MO and had lived in the Independence area since the late 1950�s. He had been the Chief Engineer of Testing and Design for Allis Chalmers for over 28 years. James was an avid outdoorsman. He loved bird watching, hunting, fishing, nature walks and many other outdoor activities. One of his most exciting adventures was when he was able to travel on the Missouri River from it�s beginning to it�s end, following in the legacy of his great great great grandfather, John Colter. He was a member of the IOOF, the American Engineers Society, the Audubon Society, and the Archeology Society of Kansas City. James was a veteran of the US Army and had served in Germany. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was a member of the Barkersville Christian Church of Tebbetts. James was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elaine Bareis and his former wife, Sandra Liston. He is survived by two daughters, Lori Hutson and husband Larry of Southlake, TX and Shelly Koelling of Independence, MO. Two grandchildren Trevor Hutson and Jackson Hutson, both of Southlake, TX. Three siblings, Otto Wayne Koelling, Cletus Koelling and Donna Burre, all of Tebbetts, MO. A brother in law, Tim Liston of Independence, MO and several nieces and nephews. James was a wonderful dad, grandfather, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.
