Herbert Hermann Kreissler of Independence, MO went to be with his Lord on Nov. 23, 2007. He passed quietly in his sleep after a stroke and subsequent fall. He was born on Sep. 22, 1922 in Cole Camp, MO to Ed and Emma (Gerkin) Kreissler. His twin brother Homer died less than a month after birth. Herb loved life on the farm, but was drafted and served in post-World War II Japan, achieving the rank of Corporal in the United States Air Force. He always had a good “war story” to tell, sometimes more than once, or twice… In 1954 he married Ruth Thompson of Lee’ Summit, MO. He held various jobs before beginning Kreissler Electric Company, which he sold in 1982 when he retired. He dabbled in real estate for years, helping many people purchase their first home. He was always a softy for someone who couldn’t pay their rent, or didn’t have enough money to pay their light bills or buy their kids Christmas presents. His generosity touched the lives of countless families. He was a devout Lutheran and a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church for decades. He helped keep the lawn mowed, and the appearance of their grounds was a great source of pride for him. The highlight of his week was breakfast with his church friends at Bob Evan’s every Sunday morning. His devotion to his wife after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis was a real testament to his faith and his vow of “for better or worse”…He leaves behind his wife Ruth of Rehabilitation Center of Independence, daughter Melinda Boeh, son-in-law Mark, and grandsons Mitchell and Max all of Independence. He was so proud of the fact that his grandsons were attending the University of Missouri at Rolla, something he never had the opportunity to do. He also leaves a nephew Tom Campbell and wife Loretta and niece Mary Newman and husband Jim, and all their children and grandchildren, and many friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly. It is said that everyone’s idea of heaven is different. We heard there was a blizzard in heaven, and Herb is happily plowing everyone’s driveway behind a nice shiny new Gravely tractor. When he’s done, he’ll have a bottomless cup of coffee with “the guys”, and then drive his Silverado around town checking on his properties. His beloved pets from the farm were most certainly there to greet him. And best of all, he won’t cry anymore. Dad, and Pawpaw, we’ll miss you. You’re a good guy, and it was an honor and a privilege knowing you. Your Christian attitude is something to aspire to. The visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Wed. Nov. 28, 2007 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St., Indep, MO with the funeral immediately following. The interment will be Private at the request of the family. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to Messiah Lutheran School or Habitat for Humanity.
