George was born in Sioux City, Iowa to parents George Kroesen and Donner Rich Kroesen, and moved to Independence as a child where he attended Columbian Elementary and William Chrisman High School. He married Louise Teter in 1938 after a two-month courtship. George was working as a meat cutter in the Bueler Brothers store on Lexington Street where he saw and fell in love with a pretty dark-haired girl working in Morman’s Beauty shop across the street. He immediately told his boss that she was “the one for him”, and that was true for the next 69 years. George and Louise had three children: Barbara Mart of Bates City, MO; LaNita Cooper of Independence; and George Kroesen II of Oak Grove, MO; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Like many children of his era, he worked since the age of ten to help support the needs of his family. Selling papers, meat cutter and mortician’s assistant were a few of his jobs until apprenticing to become a Tool and Die Maker. George and his father-in-law, Frank Teter, owned and operated “F and G Machine Works” for several years in Independence. He eventually moved into supervision for Bendix Aviation Corporation from which he retired. He held the office of Priest in the RLDS Church, where he and Louise worked in the Zions League, Boy Scouts and held other church responsibilities for the Spring Branch congregation. He was a veteran of World War II. He was decorated for his actions while serving as a scout with the 5th Army, 34th Red Bull Division in Italy.
Among the many family members and friends welcoming George to his new home are his parents, brothers Jack and Carlos, sister Clarice McKay, nephew Danny McKay, son-in-law Jack Cooper and former son-in-law Roy Mart.
