Edna “Mae” LaMastres, 85 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Rosewood Health Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. The family suggests donation in her name to Outreach International. Mae was born June 19, 1935 in Gove County, KS to James A. and Garnett S. (Johnson) Stevenson. She moved to Independence at an early age and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1953. She had worked at a family owned diner growing up, was a homemaker when raising her 3 children, had worked at Union Wire Rope, drove a school bus and volunteered her time with youth ministries and was an elder in the Community of Christ. She was also the manager for Heritage House in Independence for a number of years as well. After retirement she and her husband moved to their lake house in Deepwater, MO where she enjoyed fishing and entertaining family and friends. She had attended the Warsaw Community of Christ and Village Heights Community of Christ in Independence, MO. She is survived by; her husband of 64 years, Harry T. LaMastres of the home; 2 sons, Harry C. LaMastres and wife Rebecca of Deepwater, MO and Daniel G. LaMastres and wife Edith of Independence, MO; 6 siblings, Harold Stevenson of Emporia, KS, Robert “Bob” Stevenson and wife Shirley of San Antonio, TX, Richard “Dick” Stevenson and wife Carol of Apache Junction, AZ, Kay LaMastres, Sharee England and Sharon Tuttle all of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy, Christopher, Andrew, Laura, Caleb and Brennen and 3 great grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah and Arianna. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry D. LaMastres in June 2019.
