Edwin Powell Larson, 93 of Independence passed away Feb. 4, 2006 as a result of an automobile accident. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Mr. Larson was born Feb. 13, 1912 in Linn County, MO, to Ira Otto and Kate (Powell) Larson. He married Ruth Ellen Pulliam in 1939. She preceded him in death in 1991 after 52 years of marriage. Mr. Larson moved to the Independence area in the 1920�s and attended William Chrisman High School. He moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1960 and lived there for many years, returning to the Independence area in 1988. He always valued education and learning, and at the age of 83, earned his high school diploma through the Independence School district and received it at a special recognition ceremony by the Board of Education. He then took classes at Blue River Community College. Mr. Larson served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired member of the Pipefitters Local #533 in Kansas City, MO. He is survived by his son James E. Larson of Independence; his daughter Linda Williams of Blue springs; one sister, Mildred Reed of Athens, GA; six grandchildren, Thomas Larson, Melissa Wiessen, and Blair Larson, all of Phoenix, Lauren Hahn of Odessa, Lindsay Williams, and Leslie Williams of Blue Springs; six great-grandchildren, Brennon and Mason Larson, Haley Wiessen, Karly and Kelsey Hahn, Joseph Williams; and his best friend, Cheryl Palmer of Sibley.
