Richard Alvin Larson, 86, of Independence, MO, passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 at Villages of Jackson Creek. “Rick” was born December 19, 1927 to Charles and Allie Larson in Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Donna Rhea, together for 49 years of marriage; his son Richard Ronald, six siblings, and his parents. Rick leaves his daughter, Linda Arend and her husband Jim of Independence. Other survivors include; grandchildren, Kristina Lynn of Germany, and Michael James of California; as well as many nieces and nephews. At a young age, Rick played baseball as a catcher in the Yankee’s farm system and the Kansas City Blues. He was an Army Veteran and after serving he returned home to start a career with Southwestern Bell and AT&T, where he retired in 1986. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts, and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. His name was “Broadfoot”. Rick was a very good athlete, hunter, great carpenter, and mechanic. He supported his grandchildren in their school and college activities. A sports event he didn’t miss where he was known by “Grandpa” by all. Rick shared many stories and laughs with family, friends, and acquaintances. He was a proud member of the Montgall “Park Bums”, and loved the guys like brothers. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he will be truly missed. Special thanks for the care received form the staff of Villages of Jackson Creek and Crossroads Hospice. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday, Oct. 9th at Speaks Suburban Chapel (373-3600). Rick’s Celebration of Life will be 10 am on Friday, Oct. 10th at the Chapel.
