Hazel Meree Lawrence, 82, Independence, MO passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Thursday, Jan 27, 2022 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 10113 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. Graveside services will follow at 2:30pm, at Iantha Cemetery, Iantha, MO. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. The family requests the wearing of masks for those attending.
Hazel entered this world on May 2, 1939, in Iantha, MO, the eldest child of Barton and Hazel (Ross) Fast. Following graduation from Liberal High School in 1957, Hazel moved to Kansas City, MO where she met her future husband, Bill R. Lawrence. The couple married in May 1963 and enjoyed 49 years of marriage until Bill’s passing in 2013. To this union, two daughters were born: Kiley Ann in 1966 and Tonya Meree in 1968.
They moved to Independence in 1974 where they made their home. Hazel began college once her daughter was in high school and earned a B.S. in Accounting from William Jewell College in 1991. Following graduation, she worked in various accounting positions including over 25 years as a tax pro for H & R Block. Her hobbies included reading, enjoying the birds that visited her many feeders and watching Hallmark movies. Family was everything to her and she enjoyed spending time with them whenever she could.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kiley Ann, brother James Fast and sister Kathy Thompson.
She is survived by daughter Tonya Lecuru and husband Paul, Shawnee, KS; sister Lavonne Hanshaw and husband Larry, Independence, MO; brother Rick Fast and wife Deborah, Iantha, MO; sister-in-law Judy Fast, Lamar, MO; grandchildren Dr. Andrew Lecuru and Nicholas Lecuru; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
