Ray joined the Army on Dec. 1, 1966, at the age of 21 and served 4 years, including some time in Vietnam. Ray received his degree from Pittsburg State University in 1971 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.
Ray had just retired from Lockton Companies in Kansas City, MO on December 31, 2021. Ray was an avid Oklahoma Sooners Football fan, and a season ticket holder for his beloved Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed coaching, refereeing and officiating youth sports and was a member of the Greater Kansas City Officials Association for over 50 years.
Ray is survived by five children, Randy Lawrence of Kansas City, MO, Julie Hamilton (Ron) of Lee’s Summit, MO , Susan Pair (Jeff) of Branson, MO, Elizabeth Wait (Gary) of Kansas City, MO, and Matthew Lawrence (Jennifer) of Tucson, AZ. Ray also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Bret Hamilton, Savannah Scrivner, Bailey Hamilton, Ariana Lawrence, Madison Nesmith, Cassidy Scrivner, Jessica Lawrence, Santana Lawrence, Christopher Pair, and Antonio Lawrence; two great-grandchildren, Adley Scrivner and Roman Nesmith; as well as many dear friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for all their love, support, and prayers. Ray’s goal was always to see all of his grandchildren graduate from high school. He was most definitely called up to the big leagues too soon, but family and friends know that he will always be cheering for those he loved.
