Ray Leamon, 84, of Independence, passed away Wednesday, December 19th 2012. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 22nd at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street Independence, MO. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Burial will be held at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Ray was born March 27, 1928 in Independence, MO to Arthur A. and Lillie (Farmer) Leamon. He served as a Navy man stationed in Hawaii. Ray later graduated from the police academy and worked in the Independence Police Department until retirement in 1983. November 14th 1988 he married Lonnie Jean (Lindsey). He supported and participated in many organizations like Eagles, Fraternal Order of Police, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Shriners. He was passionate about helping children. Ray and his wife traveled the world, including his favorite place, Hawaii. Ray is survived by his wife, Lonnie, of the home; daughters, Denise Reinhart (companion Jan Stange) of Kansas City, MO; Shelly Yates (John) of Independence, MO; Lorrie Bartmess (Scott) of Kansas City, MO; son, Bob Cowan (VaRonna) of Independence, MO; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Lauderdale of Independence, Mo; Mary Pimblott of Kansas City, MO; and brothers, Jack Leamon of Stockton, CA; Roy Leamon of Blue Springs, MO; and David Leamon of Topeka, KS. He was proceeded in death by brother Charlie Leamon. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to Crossroads Hospice; 9237 Ward Parkway Ste 300, Kansas City, MO 64114.
