Tom A. Leap 59 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Oswego, KS on December 17, 1957, the youngest of 6 children born to Harold and Ruth (Horn) Leap. He attended Blue Springs High School and graduated with the class in 1976. On July 17, 1982 Tom married Diane Hipsher. and they had one son, Braden. Tom spent the majority of his career in lumber sales. Tom loved spending time with his family, especially hunting and fishing with Braden. He also enjoyed playing golf and riding his Harley. Colorado was his chosen place to ride particularly when his nephews could join him. Christmas was Tom’s favorite holiday and he always special ordered a 16 to 18’ tall tree as he could not have a “winkie tree”. Tom loved homemade cookies and candies at Christmas and increased his special must have’s each year for Diane and Ashley to make especially for him. He is survived by: his wife, Diane of the home; his son, Braden and his wife Ashley of Starkville, MS; brothers, Mike (Mary Anne) of Blue Springs, MO, Dave (Eileen) of Caney, KS, Mark (Patti) of Grain Valley, MO; a sister, Lyn Thornton (Harold) of Parsons, KS; in laws, Frank and Harlean Hipsher brother in laws, Darren (Sharon) Darryl (Dana) sister in law Ramona Lewis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jeff, grandparents Harold and Minnie Leap and Lewis and Hazel Horn. Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday evening February 22, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with visitation proceeding from 4:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday, at the chapel. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Lake Creek Union Cemetery in Bartlett, KS.
