Marcia June (Legg) Hubbard, 79, passed away on November 24, 2016.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., at Village Heights Community of Christ, 1009 N. Farview Drive, Independence, MO 64056. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House in her memory.
Marcia was born on August 15, 1937, in Arcadia, Kansas, to Herbert and June (Allister) Philbrook. She attended Arcadia High School, Pittsburg University, and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Teaching from UMKC. Marcia was a second grade teacher for Benton Elementary School. Education was a huge passion in her life; she helped bring “Parents as Teachers” to Missouri, and also helped organize “J.A.M.,” an after-school program designed to help under-privileged youth.
Marcia was later a writer and editor at the Community of Christ World Church Headquarters. She was very active in her church - she was one of the first eight women to be ordained into the priesthood. As a High Priest, she traveled the world with the church delivering written materials to educate so many. She was the choir director for Village Heights, and wrote hymns for her church as well. She taught piano, sang, acted, and was a professional puppeteer.
Marcia is survived by her husband, Eugene; children, Michelle Green, Laurel Perry, Alan Hubbard, Deborah Bridgewater, and Michele Fowler; grandchildren, Madison Dobberstine, Claire Ellingson-Schnoebelen, Jessica Trammel, Jennifer Trammel, Jason Trammel, Cecilie Fowler, Sean-Ryan Fowler, Dwight Fowler, Jr., Justin M. Fowler, and Josh Bohanon; 9 great-grandchildren; and many extended family.
