Leona "Lynn" Smith passed away on January 26, 2025, at the age of 78 in Independence, Missouri after a long battle with cancer. Born on September 11, 1946, in Moberly, Missouri, Lynn's journey through life was marked by her sharp competitive spirit.
For over three decades, Lynn dedicated her career to Channel 9 news. When she wasn’t working her spirit thrived in the excitement of competitive sports, especially football and figure skating. As a season ticket holder, she delighted in the thrill of live games and the camaraderie that came from cheering for her teams. Even during quieter moments, Lynn found joy in crocheting and immersing herself in video games, finding solace and connection in those activities.
Those who knew Lynn described her as very direct, kind hearted woman and she will be deeply missed.
Lynn leaves behind her beloved husband of 46 years, Harold; daughters, Michele Barney, Kim Smith and Monica McBride (Steve); 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, Logan Kreps who fondly referred to grandma Lynn as “GG”.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor at Speaks Suburban Chapel, located at 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055, on February 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
