Polly Lou Lesh (Rohrs)

Polly Lou (Rohrs) Lesh went home to her heavenly father, with her family at her side, March 18th, 2016. She was born May 1, 1928 to Donna Belle and Ralph Rohrs. A life time resident of Independence, MO, Polly graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1946, later attending Graceland College graduating with an Associate of Arts Degree. Polly married the love of her life Raymond Lesh August 29, 1947. They remained loving companions for 60 years, until Ray’s death in August 2, 2006.k Polly and Ray lived in Lamonia, IA and Warrensburg, MO before buying land on the outskirts of Independence where they built their family home and raised four children. Polly loved working with children, supporting church, and family life. Her many years of service included Zion’s League, PTA, Skylark, Oriole, Congregational and stake girls work camps, Sunday school, bible school, and weekly bulletin coordinator. She worked as a substitute teacher in Independence then as a preschool teacher. Passionate for reading and travel Polly passed to her children and grandchildren a love for story, knowledge, and discovery. Ray and Polly visited 49 of the 50 states. Polly’s devotion to her church and faith guided her daily. At the age of eight, she chose to become a baptized member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, currently known as the Community of Christ. She became an ordained minister and served as a priest and in later years she also volunteered as a tour guide and receptionist at the Community of Christ Temple. Polly and her husband, Ray, were charter members of East Alton, Community of Christ Congregation. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lesh; sister, Myrtis Rohrs; and parents, Donna Belle and Ralph Rohrs. Polly is survived by her children; Ralph and Jan Lesh, Nancy and Steve Schaub, Lynda and Alan Roberson and Carol and Steve Bolt all of Independence, MO. Her eight grandchildren, Adrean and Sonny Painter of Lee’s Summit, MO, Mike and Danielle Roberson of Independence, MO, Sarah and Adrian Smith of Waldo, Wisconsin, Amber and Matt Mills of Lee’s Summit, MO, Adam and Erin Roberson of St. Claire MO, Ryan and Kimberly Lesh of Indep., MO, Spencer and Jenni Schaub of KC, MO and Lyndsey Lesh of Chicago, IL, and 16 great grandchildren, Lucas Painter, Elliott Painter, Jadon Roberson, Tanner Roberson, Joey Smith, Lillie Smith, Lacy Smith, Oliver Mills, Milo Mills, Allie Roberson, Kinley Roberson, Zoey Lesh, Dillian Brush, Logan Brush, Gabrielle Brush, and Garrett Brush.
A celebration of Polly’s life will be held Wednesday evening March 23, at the White Oak, Community of Christ Congregation at 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050. 6pm will be visitation and 7pm will be the celebration service.
