Samuel L. LeVota: July 26, 1940 - December 16, 2014. Sam passed away peacefully at his home in Independence, Missouri. Sam was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and attended Northeast High School and the University of Kansas. At the age of 23, Sam made Independence, Missouri his home and remained there the rest of his life.
Samuel was the first born son of Sam and Audrey LeVota who predecease him. Sam is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Greg & Marcie LeVota, Phil & Lanette LeVota, Paul & Nancy LeVota, and Steve & Christie LeVota. Sam is also survived by his grandchildren Drew, Lindsey, Meghan, Madeline, Audrey, and Jack LeVota, his great grandson Kaden, and his brother and sister-in-law Mike and Sue LeVota.
In his 20s and 30s, Sam was a real estate developer building homes and subdivisions across the greater KC area. Later, Sam worked as a real estate appraiser and enjoyed his profession until his passing. Sam was probably best known as a community leader and strong participant in the Democratic Party. Sam’s dedication to public service and his love of politics led him to many different elected positions from Independence City Councilman to Jackson County Committeeman. In August of 2014, Sam was just recently re-elected to his position as Jackson County Democratic Committeeman representing Independence, MO.
Besides his family, Sam’s greatest loves were his dogs Einstein and Shadow and his horse, Big Red, the great, great grandson of the legendary horse Seabiscuit. Sam and Big Red started an annual fundraiser that raised thousands of dollars for Children’s Mercy Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Association.
Sam had a razor wit, an amazing sense of humor, and a smile on his face and will be missed by many.
