Betty R. Lewis

Betty R. Lewis, 83, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004. Services will be 10 am Monday, June 14th at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home, Independence, MO; with interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice, 3623 Broadway, Great Bend, KS 67530. Betty was born December 8, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to Benjamin R. and Ruth Adeline Culley Smith. On November 9, 1940, Betty married Bruce T. Lewis. She was with JC Penney Co in the Blue Ridge Mall for 17 years, retiring as Credit Department Manager. Betty was a devoted, 42-year member of Englewood Assembly of God, and was active in many church activities. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Lucille Allen. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Lawrence D. Lewis and wife Adele of Portland, OR, and James B. Lewis and wife Marilyn of Peculiar, MO; daughter, Kathleen L. Burt and husband Cliff of Great Bend, KS; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Ben Smith and wife Mardell of Bend, OR; niece, Nancy Gallagher and husband Keith of Houston, TX; nephew, Tim Smith and wife Mary of Portland, OR.
