Nina Caroline (Thompson) Lewis, 82, was born October 13, 1938 in Independence, Missouri to George W. and Dorothy (Dunfee) Thompson. She was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a young girl and remained active in her faith all her life.
She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1956 and married in 1957. From that union, a daughter, Eva was born. When that marriage ended, she entered the Independence Sanitarium Hospital School of Nursing program & graduated an RN. On Jan. 5, 1962 she married Joseph Lewis. They celebrated a few days shy of 59 years of loving marriage together. They had two children Nancy and Ronald.
For many years she was active at church & serving as the girls’ program director at the East 39th Street RLDS church. Most recently, she was actively serving at the South Crysler Restoration Branch in the Sunday school department, sewing costumes for the religious drama & attending services. Although she spent as much time as she could at home raising their children, she returned to her career of nursing from time to time to help supplement the family income, serving others at the hospital.
