Richard L. “Dick” Lewis, Jr., 88, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 8, 2015. Funeral services will be 10 am, Friday, Dec. 11 followed by the Royal Order of Jesters Court #54 Rose Ceremony at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. A Masonic service will begin at 6 pm, Thursday followed by visitation from 6:30–8 pm at the chapel. The family requests contributions to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals or the Masonic Home of Missouri. Dick was born June 5, 1927 in Independence and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Northeast High School before enrolling at Findley Business School. He founded Lewis Food Systems in 1973 and remained active in the business until his death. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence where he attended every Sunday for many years. He was a Past Master of the Mt. Washington Masonic Lodge #614, a member of Scottish Rite of Kansas City, Ararat Shrine, charter member and past director of the Ole Car Unit, Order of Quetzalcoatl and the Royal Order of Jesters Court #54. He was a collector of antique cars. Dick is survived by daughter Linda Becker and husband Michael, Bow, NH; sons Rick Lewis and wife Pam; Gary Lewis and wife Linda; step-daughter Tammy Huff and husband Mike, all of Independence, MO; granddaughter Brittany Winburn and husband Chris, Kansas City, MO and special friend Margaret Barham, Independence, MO.
