Bertha Alma (Riesland) Lingle died June 28, 2016 at The Groves Retirement Community, Independence, MO. She was born on a farm near Litchfield, NE on February 2, 1918 to Annie Truth (King) and Elmer Riesland. She attended Washington Elementary and graduated 8th grade from Martha Letts School in Sedalia, MO in May 1930. Bertha graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO in 1934 at the age of 16; she attended Missouri University in 1935 and business college in Sedalia in 1936. Bertha married Martin E.R. Lingle on July 14, 1940 in Sedalia, MO. She is survived by her daughter Karen L. (Lingle) Francisco of Waipahu, HI; son James W. Lingle of Southaven, MS; granddaughter Michelle L. (Francisco) Morihara and great-granddaughter Kelsey A. Morihara of Waipahu, HI; grandson David D.K. Francisco, granddaughter-in-law, Lori (Tripp) Francisco and great-grandson, Dillon J.K. Francisco of Mililani, HI; brother Wesley B. Riesland and sister-in-law, Wanda (Brown) Riesland of Sedalia, MO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces, nephews and cousins. Bertha is a third generation member and ordained priest of Community of Christ (formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). She retired from J.C. Penney Company as head cashier. After retiring, Bertha volunteered many years at Independence Regional Hospital, Operation Sunshine, Community of Christ Temple, and The Groves Retirement Community. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 2, 2016 in the White Oak Chapel at The Groves, 1515 W. White Oak St, Independence, MO, 64050. Family will receive visitors in the chapel from 9-10:00am prior to the service. Burial will be in the Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, MO.
