Lois was born August 1, 1944, in Benton County, Missouri, outside of Warsaw. She grew up in Higginsville, Mo. As an adult she made Missouri her home in Independence, Milan and Blue Springs.
Lois was an involved mother as her kids grew up. She attended every school event, sports competition, and Boy Scout activity. She even coached girls’ softball for a few seasons.
Lois was independent and industrious. She had many ventures where she worked for herself. By far her most successful was owning and running a family-style restaurant for two decades. In her later years you could still find her in the kitchen making a new dish she found on Facebook or baking a delicious dessert from an old family recipe.
She loved sitting in the sun on her deck where she tended her potted flowers and tomato plants. This was her favorite spot to visit with friends and family, talking about their lives and, of course, the results of the latest Royals game.
Lois’ greatest joy came when she was with family. Traditions such as making candy and decorating sugar cookies together were a highlight of her Christmas season. Family camping trips and vacations at the lake were filled with laughter and the togetherness she delighted in.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Ida Houston, three brothers: James Houston, David Houston and John Houston, one sister: Margaret Bond, and her beloved son, Kevin Saylor.
She is survived by four sisters: Ruth Harrison. Helen Couch, Zella Bright, and Wanda Heyer, two daughters: Cheryl Jones (husband Mark) and Lori Boyd (husband Rick), daughter-in-law: Melissa Saylor, seven grandchildren: Michael Jones (wife Ashley), Jennifer Ireland (husband Quaid), Stephen Jones (wife Halie), Adam Boyd, Eric Boyd, Chase Saylor and Blake Saylor, and three great-grandchildren: Emily, Luke and Owen.
She will be missed but her family finds peace in knowing that she has been healed and made whole in the hands of the Lord.
