Barbara Nixon Long

Barbara Nixon Long, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away Monday May 9, 2022. She was 78 years of age.

Barbara was born on June 16, 1943, in San Pedro, California, the daughter of Hilburn and Alma (Rupard) Nixon. She was one of two children. At a young age Barbara moved to Lebanon, Missouri, where she was raised and completed high school. Barbara moved to the Kansas City and Lee’s Summit area and completed some college courses at Longview Community College. She was a very hard worker and worked as an Inventory Control Analyst for Hallmark Greeting Cards before retiring after 38 years. Barbara loved sporting activities and was very active throughout her life. Playing in basketball, soccer, and softball leagues into her adult years. Her very favorite was golf, every year her and her girlfriends would go on one big golf trip alternating east and west coast, Barbara’s favorite course being in South Carolina. When Barbara couldn’t play as much as she wanted her, and her friends would get together every Monday and play cards and visit. Barbara was an avid reader, mysteries being her favorite. The biggest love in Barbara’s life would easily be her daughter Mary Lee, they were each other’s best friend. Summers together would include trips to the lake, boating and water skiing. They were able to visit Hawaii together and would spend Sundays watching football all day during the season, of course always cheering on her Chiefs. Barbara was such a beautiful person and will be deeply, deeply missed.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Long; sister Pat Hixson; cousins, Doli Jones, Robert Gustafson and their families as well as extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Hilburn and Alma Nixon.
