Edith Marie Long, 91, passed away November 18, 2017, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, Missouri. Services will be 10 am, Wed. Nov. 29 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel.
Edith Marie was born on November 19, 1925 in Independence, Missouri to Robert Fritz Long and Lois (Dockum), Long. She attended Mount Washington Grade school and graduated from Northeast High School.
Edith Marie worked for the Business Men’s Assurance Company retiring in 1987 after 44 years of service. Edith was also a reserve Officer for the Independence Police Department for 37 years and a lifelong member of the Mount Washington Methodist Church where she held multiple positions. She was a member of the Eastern Star Mt. Washington Chapter. Edith was a avid KC Chiefs fan and has been a season ticket holder for over 40 years.
In addition to her parents Edith was preceded in death by her brother Robert William Long and wife Betty, brother Charles Richard Long, and niece Jeanetta Shaw.
Edith is survived by her nephew Robert Long and wife Valoree, nephew-in-law Don Shaw, great- niece and nephew Whitnee Maycock and Jeff Shaw and wife Anita, and great-great nieces and nephew, Mary, Katie and Charlie Shaw.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Mount Washington Methodist Church in Edith’s name.
