James "Jim" Long

February 22, 1946 — May 29, 2021

James Alexander Long was received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on May 29th, 2021, at the age of 75.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 11th at 2 P.M. The service will be held at Higginsville Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.

Jim was born on February 22nd, 1946, in Independence, Kansas to Woodrow Wilson and Mary Alice (Lorraine) Long. Jim grew up in Coffeyville, Kansas and was the oldest of six children. He enjoyed playing baseball growing up and carried his love for the game into adulthood, collecting baseball cards and memorabilia.
Jim graduated from Field Kindley High school before going on to complete junior college in Coffeyville, Kansas. He proudly served in the armed services of the Air Force and was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam War. He later finished his business degree at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
He worked for Hallmark Cards beginning in 1976, starting out in materials management and was quickly promoted to purchasing. He held the position of purchasing through the entirety of his career until he retired in 2008.
Jim married his beloved wife Sharon on August 5, 1995. Jim and Sharon enjoyed bluegrass festivals as well as traveling together.
He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Wilson Long, his mother Mary Alice (Lorraine)Long, and his first wife Roberta, the mother of his two children.
Jim is survived by his wife Sharon Long, his son Kevin Long and wife Shelly, his daughter Tammy Simmons and husband Mike, grandchildren Kelsey Rollins, Klare Rollins, Keagan Long and Logan Long. Siblings Georgia Alston, Geraldine LaPee and husband Myrle, Rick Long, Martha Long, Mary Reese and husband Philip and many nieces and nephews.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
